I am not surprised this answer came from you, but no you are about 126,999,999 off with that guess. Seriously Alan thanks for the comment. I am going to let this one sit out there for another day or two before I give the answer. See if I get a few more comments.

        I had to google it!
According to the American Obesity Association, 127 million are overweight, 60 million Americans are obese and 9 million are “severely obese.” In the decade between 1991 and 2001, obesity figures ballooned along with our own figures: from 12 percent of us being obese in 1991 to 21 percent in 2001. Almost double. In ten years

        • Jim says:

          First no fair googling it.
Second Katie is correct 127 million people in the US alone are considered overweight, not to mention the obese and severely obese people. 9 million obese people is the entire Chicagoland area (not just Chicago) but all of the suburbs. Folks we have a problem…
Third there are reports saying by 2016 (6 years from now for those who are short on math skills) 80% of the US will be overweight. Now I take reports with a grain of salt, similar to the weather report that predicts 12″ of snow and you get 2″ of snow. But already 60% of the US is obese or overweight, they might be hitting the bullseye with this report.

So let’s just this we are slowly killing ourselves. Boy that is a happy note to end this on. So I won’t.

This is all about calories in and calories out. Burn more than going in and good things start to happen. This by no means starve yourself while you go out and run. The body goes into survival mode, shuts the metbolism down and nothing happens. Exercise is great but without proper nutrition it is no good. Eating properly is great but without exercise it is no good. It is a combination of both and a consistant tweaking of both that will produce a lifetime of results.

  1. Brian Boyle says:

Either the number of beers I consumed in my lifetime or possibly the number of people considered obese in the U.S.

      Brian,
I do think both answer are correct in your case.

Let’s do some math. What is the average calorie count of a 12 oz. beer? I am guessing 180 calories…? OK 180 calories x 127 million = 22,860,000,000 calories. Whoa…ah Brian you got some work to do. Let see on average you burn 600 calories an hour on a treadmill, running at 7.0 mph you will have to run a total of 38,100,000 hours or 1,587,500 days. Well I guess there is only one thing to say, you better get started.

You might need a couple of pairs of shoes or 3,175 pairs if you average 500 miles in each pair.
