The Road to the Ironman – Can I have more week’s like this please?
Wow, mid January seems so far away. Just a few weeks ago I was feeling stuck, down, in a funk. What a difference a few week’s make, I tell you! This week was about as perfect as it could be for a person training for an Ironman. My swimming was effortless, like gliding on ice. My rides even though still on a trainer were great (maybe because I placed the bike in front of the TV and watched the Olympics) and my runs were the best of them all. I finally got to run outside!!!!!! What a difference between running on a treadmill (better known in my circles as the dreadmill) and running outside. The outside run was one to remember, cool in the 40’s, sunny and no wind. I was out there alone and having the cool refreshing air go in and out of my lungs was… well… a breath of fresh air! I started out to run my 4.2 mile run I was running last year. As I was nearing my finish, I was not done and I just kept going and going and going. I was strong, my mood was clear, the music was great and it was a perfect moment. This is rare, nothing in fitness has come easy. I probably will never taste the greatness of winning a race, so these moments are precious!
As continue my pursuit of my Ironman (203 days away) the down times will pay me a visit from time to time, I hope I will remember week’s like this to help push me through the difficult times.
Well I am off for my final swim of the week and weights. The only down spot continues to my weight lifting. Time is the issue (OK maybe that is an excuse).
Thanks again for those interested in my journey to the Ironman!
