The Road to the Ironman – Things are starting to click
Looking at the number below they are growing and in some cases they are getting a little scary. Take the swimming totals, I am only .1 mile away from swimming a marathon (dramatic pause). Now if anyone actually cared how many lengths or laps in a pool would take to swim 26.2 miles, the length of a marathon, the answer is now out there for all to see. The other bit of information is that my body seems to be adapting to the increase in exercise. I am less sore and the mind is actually coming along for the ride.
Again looking at the numbers below there are growing and remember there are still 176 days to the Ironman, it will mind blogging to actually see what the final tallies will be. Considering my longest rides are still ahead of me, the running mileage will slowly increase in the coming months and I better grow gills considering how many more laps I still have to do in that pool. I am on a pretty good track.
So what still scares me about this journey? It would be too easy to say everything… so let’s just start that from my house here in little Oswego, IL to Madison is 146 miles. That is only 6 miles longer than the entire race! Ah the things one thinks about when swimming, biking and running. As I have learned from my friend George Hood take it all in segments. It doesn’t matter if it is one mile at a time or 15 minute blocks, live in the moment!
One last thing about my Ironman pursuit. Someone asked me what does it take to become an Ironman? My response was Swim a lot, Bike a lot, Run a lot, Eat a lot, Sleep a lot, get up the next day and repeat for the next 176 days. They just stood there looked at me as if I was nuts! Hmmmmmm. I really don’t see what the issue is. Maybe it is just me, oh well.
Until next time my Fitness Buddy Friends!
