You are what you eat and a lesson well learned?

How many times have I said this is a journey? MAKE SMART CHOICES!

What happened to Kim and I on Sunday was just another lesson learned. We began the day sleeping in and then making it off to a Barnes and Noble for a couple of hours of browsing then the lunch bell rang. So we hopped back into the car and started to look for a place to eat, but we wanted to eat at a place that would be different than our normal eating out places. As we drove we came to a pizza place you may of heard of called CiCi’s pizza. Kim said she was hungry for pizza, but I was a little weary because it is all you can eat for $3.99. I really wasn’t worried about the all you can eat part, but I was worried about the $3.99 part. I mean really how good can a $3.99 all you can eat pizza buffet really taste?

Well…

I am sorry and I really don’t what to offend the people at CiCi’s, I am sure they are very nice people but seriously YOU FEED PEOPLE THIS STUFF? It all starts out at the “salad bar” (yes I use quotes). The lettuce was dry (it wasn’t a late lunch we were eating at 11:30), the toppings were passable but the dressings!!!!!! Ranch, Blue Cheese, Thousand Island and French, might as well asked for the heart attack right there. They did have an oil dressing, but I am pretty sure it was closer to motor oil than olive oil. YES remember Jim it was only $3.99 and it really is a pizza buffet, I get it.

Which brings me to the pizza. The concept is good, come up to a buffet of pizza choose which slices you like to eat and pig out. Oh yea, don’t worry how it will taste because there will be none! If this was delivery I would have ate the box! Again I am sorry to the people at CiCi’s I am sure they are good people, but seriously!

We wonder why as a nation we are in a serious problem of people being overweight or obese. Beside the weak salad bar, the lack of taste in the pizza, what really turned my stomach was watching the rest of the people eating. Stuffing their mouths with plate after plate of this stuff. YES I UNDERSTAND IT IS $3.99, but I am at lost for words.

So maybe I am too snooty or I am missing a piece of the puzzle before I totally write off CiCi’s pizza. Tonight I went to their website to hopefully understand this a bit more. I was surprised to see they actually had nutritional info. I clicked on the tab and looked over their assortment and if you just go by the numbers, their slices averaged 120 to 140 calories. Great if you eat one or two pieces, not what I saw happening. Maybe each person had one or two plates filled with this stuff. If you read the fine print the serving size is one piece.

The nutritional info actually states the following – Watch what you eat. Especially when it’s good for you. ARE THEY SAYING THEIR PIZZA IS GOOD FOR YOU?!?!?!?! Ok Ok Ok, calm down Jim. Let’s read on. All their items contain 0 grams of trans fat (which they capitalize and add a woo whoo.) Wait for it… clap… clap… clap… wish I had some streamers (yes that is sarcasm). They go on to say this proof of their commitment to provide guests with healthy choices that don’t compromise CiCi’s great taste or quality. OH COME ON! TASTE?

Well I feel a little better, but I haven’t finished the story yet, I must finish out the rest of the day for you. Kim did apologize for the choice, but that was OK because it was a reminder on how we use to eat. That thought alone makes me a little queasy. About 15 minutes later we were done, took a nap, forced ourselves to workout (it was ugly), came home took another nap, woke up and took another nap, woke up and went to bed.

You are what you eat! Garbage in, garbage out!

Lesson learned, while most think that eating healthy is hard, expensive and generally not worth it… I can point you in a direction of a place that sell $3.99 pizza buffets under the premiss that they are actually good for and let you decide.

Please CiCi’s don’t get mad at me for disliking you pizza and I am sure there are plenty of people that would be on your side, but turn around and look at them. Do these people standing up for you really the healthiest or fittest group on the block? If you like one bit of advice, just sell your product for what it is… cheap… there is nothing wrong with that. But to sell it on being healthy and good for you? PLEASE!

I don’t think any apologies to CiCi’s are necessary…they have made the choice to feed people crap, and unfortunately, people have made the choice to buy and eat it. The fact that they would even mention the healthy eating part is ridiculous.

I try to avoid anything that says “all you can eat”. However, it is a good reminder what happens when you eat that type of lifestyle and mostly the patrons in these places is a great motivation NOT to do it.
