The Road To The Ironman – Well time once again it moving to fast
You know I am getting a little angry on how life is moving lately. In one word, fast! Okay enough whining on my part.
My running lately has been the most enjoyable part of my training. I can’t believe I use to run on a treadmill when the weather has been this nice. The treadmill has its purpose, but really running outside is so much better. The other day I ran a 7.5 mile loop in Naperville, IL and it was great! Now I have to admit I was wearing my Ironman hat that they gave to all the volunteer’s last September. I wasn’t sure if I should wear since I am not an Ironman, but it adds a little inspiration when I run. So it is my Ironman in training hat. That being said people do look at you a bit differently as they pass by you going the other direction. OK it was a ego boost!
I also have discovered running at night is nice. The weather is cooler, the wind dies down and you are really out there by yourself and your thoughts. Before you say it I do say near home, carry my cellphone and I run towards traffic so I can see on coming cars. If I run the outer loop of our subdivision it is 3 miles. Being well lit I can check my watch and I crank up the iPod. Simply it is nice to get lost in one’s thoughts.
I opened this post saying time is moving to fast. Well it is and I really don’t see an end to the fast pace, but I can some comfort that all I have to do is put on a pair of shoes, head out the door and put life on hold for awhile.
An extra tidbit, on Saturday I will attempt my first 100 mile bike ride (not a motorcycle). The attempt will be on my bike connected to a trainer, not the great outdoors (yet). I am riding at George Hood’s World Record Headquarters. I figure if he can go 300 hours I should be able to ride 100 miles. It probably will take me a good 6 hours to finish. So if anyone wants to swing by and give me a hard time this is the perfect time for you. George’s venue is at 75th St. and RT 59, in Naperville, IL. I probably will be starting around 10 am. Oh yea George will also be there peddling little heart out. It may be a once in a lifetime event to see.
That being said, time to put the running shoes and slow life down for a bit!
