I recently walked through a Sam’s Club, what an interesting place. Where else can you pick up a set of four tires, a gallon peanut butter and a fireman’s hose nossel for your garden hose? The real interesting part of the club is the food section.

Remember 66% of American are overweight and 33% of those are obese. Seeing the size of the food portions it is easy to understand why…I mean it is scary. A gallon of this, 196 oz. of that and frozen food packages the size of a pillow, made me think why do we need such quantities?

On to the quiz.

The answer is 18,000 calories…

What is the question?

Ok the last quiz question was the following -

How much will you save over 40 years by going from obese to your ideal weight?

a. $10,000

b. $100,000

c, $1,000,000

The answer is c. $1,000,000. Just the savings on possible health costs alone this number is not too surprising. But looking into the first 4 questions and combining them into one story it is easier to see the savings if you would just live healthier and fitter. These questions came for the TV show The Biggest Loser. Yes it is a TV show and the thrive on the WOW factor, but even being overweight you can scale the numbers back but they are still impressive. So being obese or overweight are ugly words to me. I have never been obese so I can only imagine the difficulties life throws at you every day. I have been overweight and can easily understand it from that point of view. The frustration, the sense of fighting this alone or it is out of my control. I been there and I am here to say you are not alone! Creating The Fitness Buddy was the result of my journey through these issues.

Thanks for taking the time and going through these quiz questions. I found them interesting, I hope you found them the same. Unlock your potential!

Sorry as I was cleaning up my posts I don’t see an answer to question #1, so here is a reminder.

How much less do obese employees make in one year?

a. $700

b. $7,000

c. $17,000

The answer is b. $7,000. Not you can call it unfair, discrimination or whatever but being obese there is a very likely chance you are making less than your fit counterparts. On average obese employees cost their employers in higher health care costs, maybe sick more often and sad to say they may not be as efficient at their jobs. Now this doesn’t mean everyone is this way, but just by being obese you are probably placed in this group fairly or unfairly.

How much do Americans spend o obesity related health issues every year?

a. $147 million

b. $1.47 billion

c. $147 billion

The answer is $147 billion.

Here is Chicago there is a radio station I listen too often called WGN. I like the broadcasters, plus in the summer it is the Cubs station. I noticed something lately about their commericials, nearly 1/3 of them during an hour are about weight loss. Now I understand it is the time of the year these types of commericials happen because of the New Year. Still I am shocked by the promises these commericials make. Basically you do nothing, don’t change your diet, no need to workout and simply swallow this pill or get this surgery and all your problems are sloved. Do people really believe these claims? I guess they do. Always looking for the short cuts, the simple solutions and spend money (a lot of money $147 billion), but yet we as Americans face more than half of us are overweight and obese. Shouldn’t that tell you these magical pills, super diets or life saving surgeries simply don’t work?

What is the answer? Simple (OK not so simple) but it is calories in and calories out. Burn more than you take in and slowly the weight comes off. Eat right and exercise, are not as exciting as those magical claims but this is the only lifestyle change one needs to live healthy and fitter.
